Vanderbilt University Hospital and Clinics cares for adult and geriatric patients during the entire care continuum. The Float Pool assists with staffing in many of these areas including over 35 different areas within VUH and over 120 clinics on and off campus.
Outpatient Float Pool has a budget of 76.3 FTEs contains Registered Nurses, Licensed Practice Nurses and Medical Assistants.
A Nurse Educator and one non-clinical support roles are dedicated to this effort.
Reporting Relationship to a Distinguished Leader
This manager reports to directly to the Assistant Director of Nursing Workforce for the Adult Enterprise. This leader began her career at VUMC as new graduate nurse and has consistently achieved greater levels of responsibility in the roles of Charge Nurse, Assistant, Manager, Clinical Business Coordinator, and Assistant Director. She works closely with Mangers from VUH to create staffing templates for each inpatient unit and actively participates in the Leadership Development Committee to promote the learning and growth of leaders at all levels. Additionally, she helped develop and currently serves on the VUH Nursing Workforce Committee to give Nurse Managers a platform to come together and collaborate on staffing related issues that affect all areas of the Adult Hospital.
This is a salaried day shift position. However, hours may vary depending on the needs within the department.
The Nurse Manager in the Float Pool is a direct supervisory leadership role and is a key member of the Nursing leadership team. The Nurse Manager is responsible for the overall management of the Float Pool, development of clinical practice, and provision of patient care with accountabilities for implementation and outcomes for people leadership, quality, service, compliance, finance, throughput, and scheduling. The Nurse Manager of the Float Pool has the unique opportunity to work very closely with other leaders to solve problems and ensure that the staff is prepared to step in and provide excellent patient care regardless of the clinic assignment.
