JOB SUMMARY: The Assistant Director of Advanced Practice Nursing will develop and support an infrastructure, strategically and operationally, for advanced practice nurses and physician assistants within an entity or program that ensures the delivery of high quality cost effective care, customer service based upon competency and evidenced based clinical practice. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with medical leadership, Schools, and appropriate interdepartmental liaisons to ensure the achievement of identified goals. Oversees the development of practice guidelines and the credentialing and privileging process for NPs in collaboration with Provider Support Services. Serves as a resource to the departmental administrator regarding utilization of advanced practice roles. Develops methods to support recruitment and retention of NPs.
Acts as an ongoing resource for clinical and process issues
Serves as a member of administrative and clinical committees, as appropriate
In collaboration with hospital administration, will resolve process and clinical challenges as identified through QI & QA initiatives.
Develops methods of data collection related to advanced practice nursing.
Participates in program planning.
Assists in the preparation and submission of capital and operating budgets related to advance practice nursing.
Monitors expense and revenue budgets for APN practice and manages to optimize budget performance.
Monitors APN billing performance and consistence with compliance standards
Maintains an environment of trust, fairness, consistency and confidentiality with diverse team members and with other internal and external customers.
Promotes standards in accordance with VUMC mission, credo behaviors and ELEVATE.
Ensures creation of a work climate that fosters collaboration, participation, satisfaction and organizational commitment as measured by annual employee survey results, turnover rates, and employee initiatives.
Ensures staff performance evaluation and performance improvement counseling with appropriate documentation.
Interviews and hires staff to meet clinical and operational needs for current and future programs using selection processes consistent with organizational expectations.
Coordinates an infrastructure for Advance Practice Nursing through support of the credentialing process in collaboration with Provider Support Services
Provides support to department leadership in establishing practice protocols
Develops a process to collect, verify, and evaluate data relevant to professional performance.
Provide overview for current competencies and compliance.
Oversees implementation of departmental-based performance improvement for ongoing professional practice evaluation
Oversees and assists in completion of new nurse practitioner orientation
Ensures consistency with overall VUMC standards and practices
Works closely with the office of Advanced Practice Nursing to ensure consistent application of central policies, processes, procedures and systems
Supports staff participation in education initiatives, including advancing their education
Supports advanced practice involvement in staff education
