Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant - Heart & Vascular Institute – Electrophysiology FT Days
The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant within the acute care hospital setting works in collaboration with and is an integral member of a multidisciplinary health care team. The NP/PA functions primarily in the electrophysiology procedural area with pre-procedural, intra-procedural, and post-procedural care. The NP/PA will also assist with lead extractions so a strong foundation in first assisting in procedures such as electrophysiology and cardiac surgery is strongly recommended and preferred. The NP/PA will also care for inpatients on the electrophysiology service.
The NP/PA should have a strong foundation evidence based practice/education and provide environment of safe quality care. The NP/PA demonstrates an advanced level of medical and nursing knowledge, clinical/technical competence, sound clinical judgment, professional communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and is responsible for professional development and competency validation.
Education required: Masters of Science in Nursing or Masters of Science in Physician Assistant Studies
Experience strongly recommended: Inpatient acute care advanced practice experience with a focus in electrophysiology. Past experience in surgical care, cardiology and/or critical care preferred.
Licensure/Certification: Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant
Shift and hours: 5 days a week, plus a rotation of weekend coverage
Primary setting: VUMC
Additional or Preferred qualifications for this position: ACLS and BLS certified. Team player, flexible, motivated.

JOB SUMMARY: The Physician Assistant (PA) within the acute care hospital setting works in collaboration with, and is an integral member of, a multidisciplinary health care team. The PA functions primarily as a hospitalist in an iPAatient setting, managing the care of acute/complex chronically ill patients. The PA is typically on a service aligned team managing the patient care from step down to discharge. The PA may have responsibilities for same patient population during follow up outpatient visits. The PA has a strong foundation in evidenced based practice/education and provides an environment of safe quality care. The PA demonstrates an advanced level of medical and nursing knowledge, clinical/technical competence, sound clinical judgment, professional communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and is responsible for professional development and competency validation.
