JOB SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Facility Manager, Cage Wash Technician I operate cage wash machinery, including but not limited to, rack and tunnel washers, autoclaves and floor cleaners, in order to sanitize primary animal holding cages, support equipment and general access areas.
Participates in cleaning, maintenance, and decontamination of cage wash facility and other assigned areas.
Sweeps and mops assigned areas thoroughly.
Disinfects walls and sanitizes assigned areas or vacant animal room using appropriate compounds and techniques.
Maintains assigned work area in a neat an orderly manner, performing additional cleaning of area as requested.
Follow SOP's regarding sanitation for assigned areas.
Assists supervisor with decontamination as requested, reporting any delays or problems to supervisor.
Empties all trash receptacles and disposes of all waste in accordance with regulations and policies.
Transports equipment to new locations as instructed.
Monitors and control cage wash environmental conditions by ensuring compliance with machine operation parameters.
Conducts daily checks of temperature, pressure, ventilation, lighting, etc. in cage wash facility and documents findings appropriately.
Maintains necessary logs/records for cage wash facility and other assigned areas.
Records information in an organized, thorough, accurate and timely manner in accordance with outlined procedures while also ensuring that recorded information is up to date.
Monitors supplies for cage wash facility and other assigned areas.
Maintains adequate supply levels in cage wash facility and other assigned areas by monitoring levels on an ongoing basis.
Restocks supplies as requested.
Checks availability of supplies and notify supervisor of supply needs/shortages in a timely manner.
Rotates dated supplies so that oldest product is used first.
Ensures equipment is functioning properly and in accordance with equipment manuals.
Inspects equipment and cage wash facility for sanitation, proper operation of all mechanical equipment, and functionality.
Recognizes problems with equipment or need for repairs and notifies supervisor.
Sanitizes animal cages and related equipment.
Assembles necessary supplies and equipment needed to complete duties.
Sets up caging with food, water, and enrichment in accordance with SOPs.
Ensures water is potable.
Cleans and sterilizes cages and equipment using steam and chemicals on established schedule.
