As the Utilization Management Nurse you will assess the medical necessity of an acute hospital stay and collaborate with physicians, nurses and other disciplines to promote proactive care coordination, discharge planning, and interdisciplinary communication.
Evaluate the appropriateness of care setting and recommend alternatives to inpatient management
Collaborate with the Care Coordinator to assess patient's clinical course and verify the need for acute hospital level of care or medical stability for care at the next level
Participate in daily patient care rounds
Share results of utilization management record review findings
Explain SI/IS/DS (InerQual) criteria and discuss documentation that qualifies the patient for acute hospital level of care, reimbursement and readiness for discharge to the next level
Provide third party payors with clinical information via review to obtain reimbursement certification
A graduate of an approved Registered Nursing program
Current RN license from Maryland Board of Nursing
Five years of clinical nursing in an acute care hospital setting
Two years of Utilization Management experience
