Provides analysis and oversight of the risk management and patient safety functions in a region or among a group of acute care division facilities. Participates in facility assessments to evaluate overall functionality of risk program and target clinical practices associated with risk reduction goals of the company. Provides intense oversight and mentoring of assigned facility risk staff in the areas of risk identification, evaluation and analysis, patient safety, claims management, HIPAA, EMTALA, regulatory compliance and RCA facilitation. Reviews, formulates and implements policy and organizational changes as appropriate to meet UHS risk management objectives. Analyzes facility dashboard metric measures related to success in risk mitigation/management and results of interventions as appropriate based on those measures.
In conjunction with the Sr. Director, directs organizational efforts in planning, implementation, evaluation and management of the UHS Risk Management Program that is designed to enhance the quality of patient care, reduce injuries, prevent claims and minimize liability exposures. Provides consultation, direction, and assistance to assigned facilities for the implementation, monitoring and enforcement of all aspects of the Risk Program. Provides consultation and direction to facility based Risk Managers when complex situations arise that may threaten the assets of the Corporation. Assists facilities in risk identification, reviews serious incidents with facility Risk Managers, provides guidance in investigations, and development of corrective actions; conducts Risk Program audits at assigned facilities and/or as appointed by the Sr. Director, Risk Management, and assists in other activities as deemed necessary by the Acute Division Patient Safety Council.
Oversees the monitoring, implementation and completion of all corrective plans of action formulated in response to the investigation of a probable claim, evaluation of a near miss event, findings of Risk Program audits conducted by corporate teams, and findings associated with gap analyses conducted by teams. Maintains regular communication of pertinent safety/risk assessments with the facility CEO and regional VP. Readily available to the CEO, regional VP and any other member of a facility's senior team for consultation on risk/patient safety issues of concern.
Provides support to any Acute Division Patient Safety program as assigned, including the NICU and OB HRU, ED HRU and Perioperative HRU teams. Conducts evaluation of success of corrective interventions enacted at the facility level. Communicates pertinent insights and site visit information with facility CEOs and Regional Vice Presidents as developed.
Essential Job Duties:
Oversees ongoing Risk Program effectiveness within each assigned UHS facility. Completes facility site visits and reports, identifies specific facility risk issues, potential problem areas, and provides direction for follow-up corrective action plans.
Analyzes facility risk management reports including PCRs, Sarbanes Oxley and responses to disseminated Acute Division Risk Management/Patient Safety initiatives. Provides guidance, oversight and direction for addressing and preventing Midas/PCR risk issues, trends and patterns. Monitors completion and submission of PCR related documents, plans of correction, RCAs, etc., for all serious events and ensures all required PCR information is accurate and provided in a timely manner.
Acts as a resource for facility risk managers and the administrative/clinical leaders in the facility by effectively providing risk related consultation, interpreting the Risk Program standards and providing necessary resources in the implementation of risk reduction initiatives.
Oversees implementation of Patient Safety Council process and reporting, assists facilities in identifying specific risk issues and appropriate corrective actions, acts as a resource for the PSC and provides relevant risk-related reference materials and direction as needed.
Researches, designs, develops, implements and monitors UHS Risk Management Best Practices, Safety Watch (Risk Alerts), resource policies, Risk Program compliance documents, etc.
Participates in ongoing communications with other corporate and Acute Division departments relative to risk management issues as directed by the Sr Director Risk Management.
