Transports patients safely and effectively by wheelchair or stretcher using side rails, safety straps and locks as appropriate. Exercises caution with regards to IV lines, pumps, monitors, oxygen tanks, and other medical devices. Trains on and utilizes lifting or transporting aides (i.e. Arjo lift). Recognizes equipment or patient problems and brings it to the attention of the nurse, technologist, or physician as appropriate.
Observes/monitors patient for comfort, safety, mental and physical status while transporting and while in other department areas. Alerts the nurse, technologist, or physician, of patient problems or concerns.
Provides for patient confidentiality, discretion, and diplomacy. Interacts effectively with patients of all age groups and maintains clinical competency in job responsibilities as evidenced by annual completion of competency for Transporters. Adheres to hospital policies and procedures, standards, and protocols to ensure effective hospital operations and quality patient care.
Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel and visitors by requiring and supporting establishment, maintenance, and education of an effective safety management program. Adheres to radiation safety practices for patients, personnel and self, including principles of time, distance and shielding where possible. Practices proper safety practices when transporting for MRI including utilization of MR safe transportation.
Performs functions as directed to assist and support the hospital staff as they focus on the exam of the patients.
Greets and escorts patient to imaging department rooms with appropriate dress and valuables secured in a safe place.
Participates in Performance Improvement activities for Temecula Valley Hospital. Demonstrates the knowledge and ability to meet age specific needs of the patients groups identified under the Age Specific Standards.
Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills and attitude towards the department as well as patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers. Supports the goals and direction of Accept constructive criticism Demonstrates initiative. Demonstrates effective communication and interpersonal skills related to problem resolution.
Reports to the patient's nurse for patient background information, monitor status, mode of transport, oxygen needs, and other pertinent information. Communicates with the receiving department all information given by the patient's attending nurse. Communicates any delays experienced in the transport process (i.e. bathroom, requesting medications, physician with patient, etc.). Or if there is any question about the exam or reason for transport the requesting department is notified.
Assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment by:
Cleaning equipment (primarily wheelchairs and gurneys).
Handling trash and dirty/clean linen appropriately.
Ability to place work order for equipment repair as needed.
Assisting nursing staff with lifting and repositioning patients when appropriate.
Assist visitors to the areas they need to go by walking them to the appropriate area.
Perform any duties that are asked of them by their Manager/Supervisor.
