Collaborates with Director to develop and implement nutritional care policies and practices which comply with hospital regulatory agencies, JC AHO, OBRA, Title 22, etc.
Collaborates and communicates with the Food Services Manager and/or Kitchen Supervisor on a regular basis to ensure any conflicts, issues or barriers to service are handled in a timely manner to ensure patient and customer safety and excellent service are consistently upheld.
Manages clinical staff in areas of food service in line with the department and hospital mission.
Manages the diet office operations to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and patient satisfaction through proper written and verbal communication.
Proficient with any computer-based programs utilized within the diet office or for clinical charting and documentation.
Supervises, trains, and orients new clinical staff to department and procedures.
Assists other clinical departments with organization and smooth operation of patient nutrition care. Identifies problems and implements solutions.
Consults with the Director for support on any departmental changes to be initiated prior to implementation, and with any department concerns in regards to employee conflict that will result in formal performance management.
Collaborates with Director to complete performance evaluations for clinical staff. Follows appropriate corrective action according to the hospital policies and procedures.
Collaborates with Director to develop department in-service education; conducts on-going in-services as appropriate (can delegate to RD staff), according to written policy. Instructs clinical staff in an on-going basis on current MNT practices, evidence-based nutrition practices, new enteral and parenteral products and standards of care guidelines through in-services individual peer reviews or informal communications on an as needed basis.
Monitors clinical and diet office staff competencies and participates in evaluating the effectiveness of the current competencies, looking to improve and add areas that need addressing to minimize potential risk concerns.
Actively participates in the on-going nutrition analysis of the patient menu composition and adequacy and other diet office nutrition related areas pertaining to therapeutic diets and nutrition support.
Collaborates with the Director to develop and review the diet manual.
Develops and coordinates in/out patient nutrition education programs to promote the department and provide service to those in need.
Serves as the Bariatric preceptor:
Plans and directs preparation of modified diets prescribed by the Bariatric Program for patients with therapeutic diet needs.
Educates and assists in planning continuity of care with adult patients during their pre-op and post-op phase on an inpatient and outpatient basis.
Leads and precepts bariatric support group meetings at the hospital and/or delegates attendance at these meetings to an RD on staff.
Provides bariatric competency training for clinical dietitians.
