VUMC Child Care offers early childhood care and education for the children of VUMC faculty, staff, and students. The child care program serves children age infants (6 weeks) to five years old. Our centers are licensed by the Tennessee Department of Human Services.
The responsibilities listed are a general overview of the position and additional duties may be assigned.
Oversees the creation, coordination and execution of the program.
Provides budgetary management to the program.
Provides training and guidance for individuals supporting the program.
Promotes growth and expansion of the program.
Responsible for managing the enhanced child care resource and referral services for VUMC employees and affiliates.
Provide up to date information and referrals to licensed child care centers, family child care homes, school age programs, back up care, summer camps and in-home agencies, as well as support and resources for parents on types of child care arrangements and quality indicators for selecting child care.
Essential Functions and Duties:
Take calls from and/or meet in person with parents regarding their child care needs
Provide guidance and resources/materials to parents regarding child care options and quality indicators for selecting child care
Provide information and materials regarding what to look for and questions to ask when interviewing providers
Conduct individualized database research for parents including calls to licensed child care centers, family child care homes, school age programs, back up care, summer camps for information such as hours, vacancies, tuition, etc.
Provide referrals to licensed child care centers, family child care homes, school age programs, back up care, and/or summer camps accompanied by a disclaimer that they are not recommendations
Provide referrals to in-home care agencies
Provide information regarding financial assistance for child care
Coordinate and/or develop and present workshops for parents
Develop quarterly parenting newsletters and disseminate to VUMC employees
Coordinate welcome new baby event for new and expectant parents to include resources and presentations on breastfeeding support, choosing quality care, postpartum depression, exercise, car seat safety, employee benefits package, etc.
Maintain and update internal and community resources
Market services to VUMC employees and affiliates
Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) and 3 years relevant experience
Bachelor's Degree in child development, early childhood education, human services or a related field
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work cooperatively and communicate well with others
Computer skills (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
Attentive to confidentiality of records and other information
