Manage quantitative research projects and perform data analysis, and data visualization support for Department of Research projects and initiatives. Serve on or lead internal work groups when appropriate. Utilize internal and external data sources to compile and analyze the results of testing, research and evaluation activities. Participate in or lead work groups for projects of moderate complexity or specific project components within larger projects as assigned. Draft technical sections of proposals and reports.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage quantitative research projects and implement database-related research methodologies including data modeling, application/system integration, reporting and data visualization.
Manage and analyze quantitative datasets, including cleaning and merging, creating variables, descriptive analysis, and multivariate regression and other analysis models. Assist with factor analysis and data imputation.
Produce and interpret tables, graphs and other creative ways to present the results of data analyses.
Exhibit highly technical problem-solving skills and resourcefulness. Analyze problems and identify innovative technical solutions. Recognize opportunities to improve applications and processes.
Contribute to the development of designs, methodologies, analytical plans, and data collection instruments for assigned projects. Write approaches and strategies for the analysis of quality measurement and research data that can be clearly understood by both expert and non-expert audiences.
Manage projects of moderate complexity or multiple project components within the larger projects. Guide project or project components through to successful completion within required time lines. Manage competing priorities among various project components.
Participate in project planning and forecasting estimates for completing project. Ensure deadlines and commitments are met by keeping management informed of project status. Develop work plans for assigned projects.
Examine and verify the work completed by internal staff and external contractors (when appropriate) including: evaluating data collection tools and verifying the implementation of statistical programs; evaluating database quality and the accuracy of analyses, reports and interpretation of results; resolving discrepancies between expected and actual results; and providing technical or statistical support to internal or contracted staff.
Effectively communicate with external customers and internal customers (e.g., Division of Healthcare Quality Evaluation, Information Technology, Office of Quality and Patient Safety. and Accreditation Operations) to design and implement databases and reports that meet business needs.
The level of knowledge equivalent to that ordinarily acquired through the completion of a Master’s degree in a research, technical or statistical field (e.g., biostatistics, statistics, epidemiology, health services research, healthcare informatics, computer science, mathematics, etc.) and health care or allied health care experience preferred.
Highly proficient in working in a variety of programming languages, relational databases, reporting/query tools, and software packages that The Joint Commission utilizes (e.g., SAS, R, MS Excel, MS Access, MS SQL Server, Power BI etc.). Willingness to stay abreast of developments in area of professional competence.
Five to seven years of experience with emphasis on project management, research methods, data analysis, data report preparation and PC-based statistical applications.
Effective ability to understand requirements in whole and in detail and ability to perform testing and strong analysis and technical problem-solving skills to investigate and debug and effectively report issues.
Experience in managing complex projects under tight timelines.
Experience producing descriptive and analytical statistical tables and graphs.
Knowledge and interest in qualitative and quantitative research methods.
Excellent written and oral communications skills, especially in communicating technical and statistical information. Capable of preparing and delivering presentations, reports and drafting technical sections of proposals and reports.
Good interpersonal skills that can be used to effectively direct the work of other professionals. Ability to interact well with individuals at external organizations and effectively communicate technical or statistical information and specifications. Ability to present to small groups.
Self-driven with the ability to work independently. Demonstrates a results-orientation, determination, ownership of responsibility, reliability, and accountability, and yet functions as a team member and follows direction as part of a team under general supervision.
