We are seeking an entrepreneurial business development talent with strong scientific and transaction experience to support the rapid growth of GenScript and its subsidiary companies. The Director of Business Development will assume a highly visible role within GenScript, working closely with cross-functional partners and the executive management team to advance initiatives that support the corporate vision and goals. These initiatives include buy-side activities, sell-side activities, and corporate strategy projects through, but not limited to, licensing, acquisition, partnering and investment deals. The role will be primarily responsible for search, evaluation, diligence, and transactions for assets/opportunities that advance GenScript and its subsidiary companies’ product pipelines.
Foster strong relationships with internal stakeholders (including R&D, new product planning, commercial, finance, legal and others) to deeply understand and support their objectives and translation into business development opportunities
Establish and cultivate relationships with external partners and experts to bring forward innovative ideas that can be incorporated into our portfolio
Stay closely abreast of research developments in the field via published literature, trade press, conferences, patent filings, and relationships across academia and industry
Lead search and evaluation efforts for specific technology platforms and therapeutic areas to proactively identify and solicit new strategic research partnerships or in-licensing/acquisition opportunities with biotech and pharmaceutical companies, academic institutions or non-profit research organizations
Establish a highly-efficient and productive sourcing and diligence process tailored to GenScript operationally and culturally
Work with cross-functional teams on evaluation and initial product development plan for proposed transactions. This includes supporting the overall product evaluation process, including scientific assessments, evaluation of the commercial opportunity, analysis of the competitive landscape, and financial modeling.
Manage internal due diligence process. Lead and manage cross-functional interactions with research, production, marketing, sales, finance and legal teams to conduct detailed evaluation process and prioritize and execute on transactions.
Participate in structuring and negotiation of term sheets and definitive agreements for licensing, partnering, investment and acquisition transactions, working closely with Senior Director of Corporate Development
Core contributor to Corporate Development team to ensure individual and departmental goals are achieved by providing leadership, team support and driving other key initiatives
5+ years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical/biotech business development
Advanced scientific degree (Ph.D. or MD) is strongly preferred
Proven ability to lead multiple BD projects and diligence teams efficiently and independently
A track record of success in sourcing/driving significant business development opportunities to completion
Strong understanding of drug discovery, development and commercialization process and essential activities across all key functional areas
Broad business development network and a progressive knowledge of innovative alliance structures, industry trends, and emerging innovations
Must have great enthusiasm for collaborating closely with R&D members in a high-science environment and contribute to the seamless integration of BD, R&D and all key functions at GenScript and its subsidiary companies.
Must be able to earn the trust and respect of executives, scientists, clinicians, administrators, investors, and collaborators while driving the initiatives
Creative, highly motivated and results-driven team player with a “nothing is impossible” attitude
Strong English verbal and written communication and presentation skills. Fluent in Mandarin Chinese is a big plus.
Ability to travel 20% or more.
