The new CMO for Newport Hospital will join a cohesive, collaborative, and high performing senior leadership team. The CMO is a key member of the leadership team, serving as “second in command”, for the institution assuming day-to-day leadership responsibilities when the CEO is off-site.
The CMO provides clinical leadership and administrative direction in developing and attaining strategic and operated objectives related to medical practice and patient care activities of Newport Hospital. He or she directs the Medical Affairs Division to function as a synergistic, harmonious, and productive entity, integrated and synchronized with other hospital functions to fulfill medical staff member goals and contribute to the overall purposes and objectives of Newport Hospital. The CMO also plays a strong role with donor relationships.
The ideal candidate for the Chief Medical Officer will be a physician leader with excellent clinical credibility and a strong commitment to providing high-quality, community-based care. He/she will be a strategic-thinking physician with strong relationship management and political skills, and the demonstrated ability to work effectively with both employed and private physicians, nursing colleagues, and administrative leaders.
MD or DO degree with board certification. An advanced degree in healthcare or business administration is a plus.
Ten or more years of experience in clinical practice, and five or more years of experience in a medical leadership role within an acute care community hospital setting.
Licensure or eligibility for licensure in the state of Rhode Island.
Demonstrates ability to interact comfortably and effectively with external constituents including local community members, civic leaders, and the donor community.
Ability to successfully navigate and thrive within a complex matrixed community hospital/academic health system environment.
