Job Summary The SPECIALIST-INFORMATICS SUPPORT improves the overall quality and completeness of clinical documentation through the application of evidence-based knowledge, analysis, in depth review, interpretation, communication, consistent follow up and evaluation of electronic medical record (EMR) documentation. Facilitates timely, accurate and complete documentation of clinical information used for measuring and reporting patient/hospital outcomes and compliance with regulatory standards. Applies teaching/learning principles in establishing an overall educational program related to effective clinical documentation, for and in collaboration with leadership, nursing, physicians and the health care team. Position requires working collaboratively with users of current and future clinical information systems at HH. Providing leadership for planning and implementing information operations for clinical departments, with a focus on the ongoing development of EMR requirements. Responsible for coordinating aspects of: planning, design, development, implementation, education, maintenance and evaluation of clinical information systems Utilizes the knowledge and skills of clinical practice to determine clinical functions that are suitable for computer adaptation to ensure the information systems are consistent with professional standards of clinical practice.
Implements information system applications consistent with the hospital's patient care philosophy. Provides leadership to clinical departments in identifying, developing, implementing and maintaining efficient, effective clinical information services. Initiates, maintains and communicates action plans regarding system implementation and support to members of hospital staff.
Serves as champion of change, providing those impacted by the change with the understanding of why we are implementing a new clinical information services, the benefits and value of the change. Provides opportunities for those impacted by the changes to participate in the change process.
Develops policies and procedures pertaining to use of clinical information systems. Keeps policies and procedures up to date, utilizing staff and manager feedback. Maintains knowledge of standards of accreditation agencies and incorporates same into standards.
Develops and participates in structured training courses for new system upgrades, ongoing support and collaboration with clinical end-users.
Maintain open and active communications with vendors. Facilitates communications between vendors and clinical staff.
Communicates complex concepts and issues effectively both written and orally across all levels within the organization. Facilitates problem solving within and between departments.
Communicates complex concepts and issues to management, leadership council, and other committees as required in timely and effective manner.
Maintains membership on, or consultation to, appropriate work groups or task forces as needed to facilitate the ongoing process of design, implementation and revision of automated and manual components of clinical information system. Conducts meetings and presentations effectively and professionally.
Maintains a current knowledge of: Trends and issues in health care, nursing practice, and healthcare informatics. DNV standards and other data pertinent to the clinical area. Organizational policies and procedures related to clinical practice in the specific arena, and legal implications of the clinical information system. Clinical applications currently in use, and their relationship to organizational information systems. Support for full integration of EPIC and CPN, and interfacing needs. Hardware, operating systems, application, operational analysis and protocols.
Develops and maintains a quality improvement program for clinical information systems. Monitors, reports and collaborates with other departments to identify areas for improvement and efficiency.
Actively participates in conferences and professional organizations related to the clinical information system and specific department. Attends conferences, seminars as appropriate. Communicates new information to appropriate leadership and clinical staff.
Advocates for safety and decrease of risk through appropriate documentation and adherence to national professional standards as well as principles and practices of a safe culture.
Directs and participates in computer training and orientation activities for students, current and new personnel.
Participates in ongoing quality improvement and process improvement initiatives to measure patient care outcomes
Supports the ongoing development of professional and support staff within the department through direct collaboration with unit-based education resources, system-wide educators and leadership.
