Job Summary The Clinical Research Technician's basic responsibility will be to handle and process biological samples or radiological imaging per a defined research protocol (clinical trial) and SOPs. The successful incumbent will be able to understand entry-level medical terms and be able to interact with multiple parties at many levels of the organization. The job requires judgment in conducting tasks under proper compliance and safety procedures, attention to detail, accurate data entry, understanding and interpreting instructions and protocols, performing tasks in a timely manner, and the management of study-related documents. This position requires coordination of sample attainment, processing and shipping to independent laboratories based on the requirements of a specific clinical protocol.
Obtain informed consent from patients for biological sample acquisition. Obtain basic clinical data on patients. Obtain follow-up information as required by study protocols and submission of data.
Arrange for the centrifugal separation of blood into lymphocytes and red blood cells as well as the snap freezing of blood and tissue.
Develop relationships with pathology, histology, radiology, operating room and surgical departments. Act as liaison between the Principal Investigator and all internal and external contacts. Interface with patients, hospital staff, physicians, and the study sponsor. Participate in site audits by regulatory agencies or study sponsor when required. Maintain quality assurance.
Handle peripheral blood samples, tissue samples or radiological imaging scans. Assure daily shipment or as required of the tissue and peripheral blood samples via a cryoport to independent laboratory as required by study protocols. Ship biological samples per IATA requirements.
Comply with documentation and procedural requirements of the study protocol, (including but not limited to) assisting with IRB reports and submissions, case report form completion, enrollment reports, adverse event and drop out updates, handling and labeling of samples, and proper shipment of materials. Complete detailed study questionnaires. Obtain documentation of sample and imaging interpretation reports. Address data queries in a timely manner. Perform other related duties as assigned.
