Serves as the Primary Source for Best Practice techniques in the mobilization of patients. Ensures patient's and care givers safety at all times.
Responsible for planning, prioritizing, organizing and performing patient lifts or patient repositioning, utilizing appropriate lifting devices/equipment. Assumes responsibility for reporting equipment maintenance needs to Clinical Engineering and monitoring inventory of patient lifting/transfer equipment, along with maintaining proper hygiene of equipment on each unit. Assists nurse educators with staff education and training in use of patient lifting equipment and appropriate lifting techniques and making specialty chairs available whenever able and needed.
Maintains database or other documentation of key functions, daily tasks, and other measurements as designated by the Operations Manager.
Meets qualifications to provide care for patients in specific age ranges when patient lifts/reposition is performed.
Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of Geisinger in its efforts to provide quality patient care and patient satisfaction.
Responsible for ensuring the very best patient/family experience by optimizing all customer interaction. Foster a positive work environment through mutual support and cooperation and adheres to GHS and unit specific Service Standards.
Works under the supervision of the Operations Manager.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Demonstrates physical fitness (possession of normal strength and range of motion free from spinal abnormalities limiting ability to use lifting devices and techniques).

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Minimum one year experience in direct patient care preferred.
Experience with complex and/or dependent patient lifts and transfers preferred.
Experience with lifting equipment preferred.
Successful completion of initial physical screening required.
Successful completion of orientation and competencies specific to the role of Patient Transfer Team Technician required.
Completion of continuing in-services and yearly educational requirements required.
BLS certification required.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Patient Transfer Team Technician should be free from previous or recurrent back injuries.
Work is primarily performed in the patient care setting, with frequent interaction with patients, families, and nursing staff members.
Requires frequent lifting and repositioning of heavy patients (up to 500lbs. or more) with the assistance of appropriate mechanical lift devices.
Requires pushing and pulling of equipment.
Requires use of upper extremities for lifting, pushing, pulling (up to 100lbs. or more) and Requires extensive walking throughout the hospital.
