Conifer Compliance maintains and oversees a compliance program that is consistent with the HHS Office of Inspector Generalï¿½s Compliance Program Guidance for Third Party Medical Billing Companies (ï¿½Guidanceï¿½), which is built around the seven fundamental elements described in the Guidance.
The Coding Compliance Manager of SAR is responsible for overseeing risk-based semi-annual reviews (SAR) are performed accurately and timely according to Conifer Coding Compliance policies and work plan.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for organizing and maintaining coding compliance semi-annual reviews in accordance with Conifer policies and procedures, including managing a team of senior auditors to ensure all appropriate facilities are included in the audit procedure and to ensure appropriate risk-based areas of coding are identified and included in SAR audit samples.
Ensures review findings are clear and accurate; responsible for reporting audit trends as an opportunity for coder/auditor education, training, and corrective actions. Uses findings to advise on policies, processes, and training for overall improvement in coding and auditing quality and related functions.
Serves as resource for other coding compliance team members, including directors and other managers. Collaborates with Manager of Coding Compliance Education for developing and presenting educational sessions to all coding and auditing staff, and responsible for all training and mentoring of new and existing staff.
Stays current with AHA Official Coding and Reporting Guidelines, CMS and other agency directives for ICD-9-CM and CPT coding. Completes online education courses and attends mandatory coding workshops and/or seminars (IPPS and OPPS, ICD-9-CM and CPT updates) for inpatient and outpatient coding. Reviews AHA and CPT quarterly coding update publications. Attends all internal conference calls for Quarterly Coding Updates.
Provides input regarding departmental budget specific to area of responsibility.
Reviews and approves expense reports for direct reports.
If direct report positions are listed below, the following responsibilities will be performed in accordance with guidelines, policies and procedures and applicable laws. Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Adheres to AHIMAï¿½s Standards of Ethical Coding; AHIMAï¿½s Code of Ethics; AHIMAï¿½s Ethical Standards for CDI Professionals, ACDISï¿½ Code of Ethics, and the AAPCï¿½s Code of Ethics, in addition to Coniferï¿½s Ethics Standards
Consistently exercises discretion and independent judgment when performing and documenting audit results
Strong leadership and communication skills, problem solving abilities; good knowledge of medical records systems
Advanced knowledge of disease pathophysiology and drug utilization
Advanced knowledge of MS-DRG & APR-DRG classification and reimbursement structures
Keeps abreast of new technology in coding and abstracting software and other forms of automation and stays informed about transaction code sets, HIPAA requirements and other future issues impacting the coding function
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Include minimum education, technical training, and/or experience preferred to perform the job.
Five (5) years of previous relevant management experience related to coding compliance functions.
Documented experience in inpatient and outpatient coding, coding compliance auditing, and coder training.
Experience ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS, and CDI
Bachelor/Associate degree and AHIMA coding credential
Include minimum certification required to perform the job.
AHIMA coding credential, CCS preferred
